“With what misgivings we turn our lives over to God, imagining somehow that we are about to lose everything that matters. Our hesitancy is like that of a tiny shell on the seashore, afraid to give up the teaspoonful of water it holds lest there not be enough in the ocean to fill it up again. Lose your life, said Jesus, and you will find it. Give up, and I will give you all. Can the shell imagine the depth and plenitude of the ocean? Can you and I fathom the riches, the fullness of God’s love?” — Elisabeth Elliot

Munching salty chips
Here I sit with puckered lips
Good, not delightful
Scatter These Thieves June 15, 2007
I almost named my blog after the title of this song. It’s by one of my all-time favorite musicians, Margaret Becker. I think about song lyrics alot. They get stuck in my head and they float around like a lazy summer breeze.
Life is full of distractions. There are so many niggling things that constantly clamor for my attention. I often find, at the end of my day, I’ve done everything but the things I really wanted to do. Songs, however, are always with me. No matter where I am or what I’m doing, they always find a way to push to the forefront of my mind. For that, I am glad!
This song perfectly illustrates my current frame of mind. And I hope to keep my mind in this place as long as I’m alive. Thanks for stopping by my blog!
Scatter These Thieves, by Margaret Becker
See this tower of vanity
Scatter it to the wind
Tear it down piece by piece
Scatter it to the wind
Level the walls of this rebel heart
Let Your light invade my dark
Crush the pride in every part
And scatter it to the wind
Scatter, scatter, scatter these thieves
That steal Your truth and burden me
Sweet, sweet, sweet liberty
When You are all that’s left
In me
See this tiger of retaliation
Scatter it to the wind
See this tongue of defamation
Scatter it to the wind
Bind these hands of selfishness
Find the sins I can’t confess
Cleanse me from unrighteousness
And scatter it to the wind
Scatter it to the wind
Scatter, scatter, scatter these thieves
That steal Your truth and burden me
Sweet, sweet, sweet liberty
When You are all that’s left
In me
This is my beginning
This is my end
This is the ground
I must die to defend
I must die to defend
As long as I live
As long as I breathe
You must grow stronger
Stronger, stronger
In me Cleanse me
Let the water pour
Over me
Flowing down, down, downCleanse me
Let the water pour
